Handi Damatta

Handi Damatta, 23 years old, is a dancer, choreographer, interpreter-creator, and circus artist, born in the outskirts of Itaquaquecetuba (SP). His artistic journey unfolds at the intersection of dance and circus, with training built in cultural education spaces, such as the Fábricas de Cultura (Culture Factories), the Espaço Criativo SETES, and the Núcleo Luz. In these contexts, he deepened his studies in different branches of dance—across various approaches such as contemporary, modern, and urban styles. He also has training in circus arts through the Projeto Folia, expanding his body-based research beyond dance and incorporating elements of circus language into his creative and performative processes. He currently is part of T.F. Cia de Dança and works as director and dramaturg for the black circus collective A Coisa Tá Preta. His artistic research focuses on the body as a territory for expression, creation, and critical thinking—mobilizing the stage as a space for denouncing, remembering, and celebrating Black experiences.
