Under the Skin

Release

I exist. And, in my skin, my existence becomes concrete in constant relation between body and environment, body and city. Trapped, my skin determines my space, delimits my intimate existence, separating me from the external environment. What sensations does my body perceive, heightened by the city? What oppressions, fears, and anguish does the urban environment give me? A razor that cuts me every day, leaving traces on my skin and secretly, carries its wrinkled marks from time. Largest organ of the human body, place of touch, pressure, sensitivity, sweat, scent, pleasure… Skin: a sacred reliquary. Skin: a terrifying confinement. At birth, I fill my lungs with air, and, when I die, I give my final exhalation. In the skin, a fingerprint that constitutes this being. But who am I? What does culture make of me? How do I deal with the sensations this city causes me? This work seeks to reflect on the various perceptions felt, deeply, under the skin.
