Bodies of the Border

Bodies of the Border investigates the limits — physical, symbolic, and social — that cut across bodies in contemporary Brazil. The work seeks to reflect on the plurality of bodies that call into question these borders: Black people, women, homosexuals, and people from the periphery come together in the belief that, together, individualities are strengthened, creating possible micro-cracks for understanding the world today. In times marked by social and symbolic distancing, the work proposes crossing these borders beyond the physicality that separates territories, affirming a desire for encounter, for recognizing one’s own body as a boundary, and for the (s)kinesthetic experience as a ritual of sharing. By recognizing a portrait of the human condition as essentially collective, Bodies of the Border affirms the need to be together, to seek interactions, associations, and ways of living together. In the scene, hierarchies between social roles are tested and, in the best of cases, questioned and reconfigured, making room for new forms of relationship, listening, and presence.
