Karen Marçal, a black woman from the surrounding district of the city of São Paulo, has a very diverse background in dance, with her technical foundations spanning from classical to urban dances, including experiences with circus arts. She began her artistic career in 2011 in the cities of Suzano and Poá, holding a technical degree in Dance and having participated in the Núcleo Luz Project (São Paulo State formation). She was a member and participated in regular classes and events with numerous companies, groups, collectives, and artistic businesses involved in dance, events, and other art forms. Currently, she is a dancer and performer-creator with “Dentre Nós Cia. de Dança,” Jorge Garcia Cia de Dança, and “T.F. Cia de Dança”, and also in constant dialogue and artistic exchanges with “Futura”, managed by Clarice Lima, and “Zona Fora”, by Cristian Duarte. She is the director and creator of “Cia. Intrusas”, where she blends and deepens movement research with hybrid artistic practice. With focus on poetic expressions through the body and the spoken word, with a diverse training that fosters a signature work, her research has become more and more consolidated.
